Retail Unit Painting Staples Glasgow
Vanda Coatings carry out shopfront re-spraying on a range of retail outlets all over the UK. The types of shopfronts we recoat include individual businesses on high streets and large chains situated in retail parks. Staples is one of those chains that we have worked on in different locations nationwide and retail unit painting of Staples in Glasgow took place recently.
This particular project involved re-spraying the external cladded face of the Staples outlet in Glasgow as well as the external and internal shopfront framework. Two exterior concrete cylindrical pillars either side of the front face of the building also needed coating. We generally only re-spray metalwork, but sometimes we do paint masonry and even wood if they are part of the project we are already working on.
Clients require their premises refurbishing for all sorts of reasons. In this case, a new colour had been chosen as part of a re-brand. The existing red coating on the shop framework had weathered and faded in the sun anyway as can be seen from the photos at the bottom taken in daylight. The grey Kingspan panels were in a relatively good condition, but the client wanted them to be in the new colours, so they were also refurbished.
The shop was trading, so all the preparation was able to take place during opening hours, but the spray work was started late in the afternoon when it was quiet and then this carried on late into the evening. For all of the work at height access was via a cherry picker which all our teams are trained to use. Every operative has both IPAF and PASMA certificates as well as being experienced in safely working high up.
The prep entailed sanding down the surface with a mechanical sander. This is to key the surface for the next layers to stick properly and also to iron out any unwanted ridges. As sanding inevitably generates dust, thinners were used to clean this off the substrate. Next came the masking up. No matter what the project, masking off adjacent areas to protect them from possible paint overspray is always an essential part of the preparation. After priming, the red top coats were spray applied by our four man team. The photo at the top and bottom taken at dusk show the completed retail unit painting of Staples in Glasgow.
